Mississippi Republican Introduces Separate But Equal Flag Bill

From WAPT:

Republican House Speaker Pro Tempore Greg Snowden is proposing that the state have two flags: one with the Confederate emblem, which currently represents Mississippi, and another flag without the emblem.
Yes, you read this correctly. A leader in the Republican legislature is introducing a bill to fly two flags at the same time, acknowledging that our current confederate battle flag is offensive, but not enough to take it down.

So instead, Snowden reached back into history for a compromise. Separate but equal flags will have to do.

A deserved thank you to Speaker Philip Gunn (R- Clinton)

By now, you are all very much aware of the online petition to change Mississippi's state flag and the various comments from politicians on the issue.  One in particular stood out, seeing as the Mississippi Republican Party is the official "safe place" of racist white Mississippians.

(Just like this, but in the MSGOP version, both people are white.)
House Speaker Philip Gunn (R - Clinton), whom I have criticized on this blog more times than I can count, issued a statement last night stating his belief that we should remove the Confederate battle flag from the Mississippi state flag. I agree with him, and am glad to see he has opened his mind to the idea that a symbol of our state should be one that unifies, not divides.  So, kudos to him for that.  I stand with you, Speaker Gunn.

Now let's see you get that through a government currently dominated by Republicans. Best of luck.

Confederate flag at Mississippi Supreme Court hoisted on birthdate of Confederacy

Well, well, well.  A friend of the blog pointed out today that the Confederate Battle Flag was raised at the Mississippi Supreme Court on the exact date the Confederate States of America was formed.  I dug around a bit, and sure enough, the CSA was formed on February 8, 1861 when the Provisional Confederate States Constitution was adopted.

Pure coincidence as the Department of Finance and Administration says? Or someone a little too enamored with our past and a coverup afoot?
