Yesterday, state senator Chris McDaniel (R - Ellisville) announced he would challenge U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R - Miss) in the GOP primary in 2014. He posted an announcement video on his campaign website, but quickly blocked public access to it. This was after others, including Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley (D), took him to task for calling Mississippi "a welfare state."

Not quite ready for prime time. Has to keep looking down to read.
Yeah, he had his teleprompter (or his coach) positioned poorly. As for Mississippi being a welfare state, Chris, aren't you in the legislature that made it so? Through corporate welfare and suppression of poor folks?
Calling MS a welfare state is nothing but accurate. We receive a greater percentage of medicaid dollars than any other state. http://kff.org/medicaid/state-indicator/federal-matching-rate-and-multiplier/
and MS ranks 2nd in federal dollars received per tax dollar contributed. That's not a reflection on hard working people, just a fact that we should be more independent as a state and not so dependent on a federal government that is broke.
