Rep. Jeff Smith (R - Columbus), co-author of the bill the would put Mississippi on the brink of secession, lost his race for House Speaker four years ago by one vote.
Back then, Smith ran as a Democrat. He has since switched to the Republican Party, where his political views are more accepted. After all, he may have gotten his mustache style from 1912, but he got his love of sovereignty from 1861.
