Legislation to destroy workers' compensation system still alive

Last week, I was pleased to report that HB 555 had been defeated in the Mississippi House.  HB 555 would have removed numerous protections for Mississippi's workers, and made it almost impossible to recover wages lost due to work-related injuries.  Well, the fight isn't quite over yet.

SB 2576, the companion bill to HB 555, passed the Senate on Wednesday of last week.  SB 2576 is nearly identical to HB 555, and has been transmitted to the House for consideration.  SB 2576 was amended last week to contain a "reverse repealer", meaning the bill would have to go to a handpicked "conference committee" if the House takes the reverse repealer out.

The fight on this one is long from finished.
