Honor Your Promise website aims to fight PERS cuts

If you are a PERS covered employee, or are concerned about the Public Employees Retirement System, you need to run over to HonorYourPromise.us. As you most likely already know, Gov. Haley Barbour has convened a "study commission" to find ways to save money on PERS. And as you most likely already know, "everything is on the table."

Here's some things you may not know: In 2010, then-State Rep. Steven Palazzo (R) introduced HB 1243, which would have cut the 13th check, and thereby affecting 80,000-plus PERS members. Furthermore, the Phil Bryant-led State Senate voted to shut down PERS altogether this year rather than allowing an increase in employer contributions to stabilize the system.

So run, don't walk, over to HonorYourPromise.us. There's a petition to sign, news about the PERS Study Commission, and even a page where you can calculate your benefit cuts.
