Gov. Haley Barbour's relative defrauded FEMA according to federal court

Judge Miller's Opinion

In a scathing opinion, Judge Miller has found that Rosemary Barbour's company defrauded the Federal Emergency Management Agency of close to $80,000. The judge ordered that money repaid, and tacked on a $250,000 fine.

Rosemary Barbour is the wife of Charles Barbour, Gov. Haley Barbour's nephew. Charles Barbour recently lost a close race against Will Longwitz to replace Sen. Walter Michel (R-Jackson). These allegations concerning Rosemary Barbour were addressed by Charles Barbour in an interview with the Jackson Free Press. At the time, Barbour said of the allegations against his wife "There was nothing there to begin with except petty jealousy."

Great attempt, Matt, at taking a shot at the Governor with your 'headline'. But truth always gets in the way of a good story. Rosemary is not a relative of Governor Barbour. She is the wife of Barbour's nephew - a fact I am sure you know, but chose to ignore trying to do anything you can to push your agenda.

Run the story - and the transcript. It is good reading. But to try to make the story about HRB is a stretch, even for you and Brandon.

James, three things:

1. "Rosemary is not a relative of Governor Barbour." Really? Last time I checked, niece-in-law is a relative.

2. "She is the wife of Barbour's nephew - a fact I am sure you know, but chose to ignore trying to do anything you can to push your agenda." Chose to ignore? Quoting now directly from the post: "Rosemary Barbour is the wife of Charles Barbour, Gov. Haley Barbour's nephew."

3. If I wanted to hit Gov. Barbour on something, I'd go after his awful pardon record or his efforts to cut PERS benefits. At least that's where I'd start....
