Jerry Mitchell's got the story over at the Clarion-Ledger, and it basically sounds like the Department of Public Safety was in shambles for the last few years. Cheating on tests, using state vehicles for personal travel, and fixing tickets are not exactly the signs of a well-run Department of Public Safety. When referring to the widespread availability of a supposedly secure test, former Assistant Commissioner of Public Safety Michael Berthay said "Who knows? The Afghan police could be studying for this test."
Contrast that news with the recovery of $8.9M in tobacco fees for the state and the creation of a new Mississippi Intellectual Property Crimes Center.
Just sayin'....
