Wonder who paid for the sign in the background?

State law says you have to file papers declaring a campaign committee if you receive or disburse more than $200 in campaign funds:
All candidates and political committees must fully itemize (identify) the sources of
contributions and itemize disbursements when they aggregate to more than $200 in a calendar
year. Miss. Code Ann. § 23-15-807 (1972)
(You can read the Secretary of State's Campaign Finance Guide here.)

That makes me wonder: Who paid for Public Safety Commissioner Stephen Simpson to flit around the state announcing his bid for Attorney General? And who paid for the sign in the background of the above photo?

All of this matters, of course, because Commissioner Simpson says he isn't yet a candidate for Attorney General. If he was a candidate, it would appear that he is in violation of the Hatch Act, as Patsy Brumfield outlined for us all yesterday.
