Sen. David Blount pushes law enforcement alert system
Sen. David Blount (D-Jackson) has introduced legislation to create a "Blue Alert" system that would send information statewide when an officer is injured or killed while on duty. Therese Apel of the Clarion-Ledger has a story about it on their website, and it appears as though the legislation is gaining bipartisan support. That's a good thing, as the system will automatically alert all law enforcement agencies statewide, which can help apprehend suspects. Speaking in support of the bill, Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant was quoted as saying, "We need to do everything we can to apprehend violent criminals who seek to harm those who protect us."
