All eyes on the House this afternoon

The House is set to take up the Motion to Reconsider SB 2576, the Workers Compensation Destruction Bill, when it returns to session this afternoon at 4 p.m.  In addition, the House also has the following items to deal with in short order:

1. HB 1511, the Governor's Office appropriations bill, is up for concurrence.  This bill was the impetus behind Saturday's explosive Sun-Herald article.  Aside from cutting funding for operations at the Governor's Mansion, the bill also allocates $2M for outside counsel in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill litigation.  But, completely contrary to what Lt. Gov. Reeves said in today's Clarion-Ledger, that $2M is spread out over 15 months, not 3 months.
2. SB 2600, which would allow for brewers to provide samples to those touring their facilities.  This legislation is important to Lazy Magnolia in Kiln, the new Lucky Town Brewery start-up, and other potential new businesses.
3. The charter schools bill is stuck in the House Education Committee.  All indications are that it will die there.  This would be a big victory for public education.  The Education Committee meets after adjournment, and should be quite the show.  Especially after Chairman John Moore (R - Brandon) threatened to dismantle public education altogether if his beloved charter schools bill died.  Maybe we'll get to see Rep. Moore's inner Richard Barrett show up again this afternoon.
