Rep. Diane Peranich no longer has a primary opponent; seat likely safe for Democrats

Republicans had been eyeing the possible defeat of Rep. Diane Peranich (D-DeLisle) via a primary challenge from a black candidate they likely recruited, Lytanya Toomer. Looks like they will have to put their eggs in a different basket if they want to upset the six-term incumbent, as Lytanya Toomer has officially withdrawn from the race.

Frankly, kicking out any six-term incumbent is a tall order. Removing Rep. Diane Peranich, who has been a huge asset to her district, especially post-Katrina, is almost impossible. While this seat was slightly in play with Toomer in the primary, it is now most assuredly in the "safe" category.
