WTVA is reporting that Wayne Harris, a man connected to a January shooting in Calhoun City, has been indicted and returned to jail. To make matters more complicated and tragic, there are separate charges against Harris involving allegations of child sexual assault.
You may recall that we wrote about this incident when the story broke earlier this year. The story revolves around an argument between Harris and Chris McGonagill that turned into a shooting where both men were shot and McGonagill died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
Here's the heart of the matter:
Before leaving office, Governor Haley Barbour issued a pardon to Harris!
Keep in mind that Barbour vowed that none of the individuals he pardoned are threats to society, even though he pardoned 11 convicted murderers and several others for manslaughter and DUI deaths. What could possibly go wrong?!
Regrettably, legislative Republican leaders have killed any attempt to reform the pardon process and have shown no interest in addressing this very troubling issue.
