Rep. Willie Bailey (D - Greenville) speaks against Denny map
Rep. Willie Bailey: It doesn't do any good to have 42 African-American legislators sitting down here like bumps on a log. Not a single African-American on Ways and Means under Speaker Gunn's administration. How is that going to get any better under this map? 42 African-American legislators sitting down here is nothing. It's a disgrace that no African-Americans sit on Ways & Means. The Denny map seeks to chop off the hand of white Democrats, which weakens black Democrats. Under the Denny map, situations like no African-Americans on Ways & Means will be more frequent and worse. When you go against the white Democrats, you're going after the black Democrats.
