Word around the Capitol is...

that Philip Gunn is going to name failed Republican AG candidate Steve Simpson as House Clerk. That's interesting, seeing as Simpson was roundly rejected by voters a month ago, at least partly because he went easy on a child molester who later killed a priest.

I'd been hearing Ellington, too. In fact, that was all I was hearing after Ellington's defeat. The word about Simpson started making the rounds early this week.

Gunn would be putting his fellow Republicans in a tight spot by nominating Simpson for Clerk. The Clerk is elected by the House, and Simpson was just roundly rejected by voters across the state for many reasons.
