This afternoon, the Mississippi Democratic Committee filed its Joinder of the House Elections Committee's Motion to Adopt the Joint Committee's plans.
The argument is essentially what "limited government" and "states' rights" Republicans would be making. That's one of the very odd things about the current posture of the redistricting case. Essentially, the Mississippi Republican Party and Gov. Haley Barbour are begging for the federal government to come in and tell Mississippi how to run its legislative elections. Coming from litigants who have traditionally been vociferously opposed to any such federal intervention, it's just plain weird.
