Cloning?

Among the initiatives that are scheduled to be on the November ballot is the "Personhood Initiative". This initiative seeks to define "person" as "every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the functional equivalent thereof." The mention of cloning is curious chiefly because it's hard to believe that the same folks who have supported this initiative would support cloning.

On the website managed by supporters of the initiative, this note has been added:

NOTE: Please understand that the inclusion of the word “cloning” in the proposed Amendment does not in any way condone cloning. There will be an entire section on the website posted soon explaining why this wording is necessary and answering any questions.
We'll be waiting on that.
